ABOUT MDJGS ART

MDJGS ART is : Matthew D J G Stuart. A southern New England artist born in Rhode Island.  After winning a national grand prize congressional award for "Artistic Discovery" from  Washington DC in 1987 he decided to pursue his artistic abilities and see where they lead him. Getting accepted into four Art colleges he decide to attend New England School of Art & Design in Boston MA in 1989.  After graduating he pursued a career in museum reproductions working with clients such as Peabody Essex Museum,MFA Boston and MET in NYC . After four years in that area he decided to go in a different direction and sell Real Estate for the next 26 years. 

     Only the confines of the pandemic would bring back  painting, reigniting his passion for art and remembering all those lessons learned from so long before.  Stuart describes this new style of painting as abstract impressionism with expressionist color and some aspects of surrealism . Not fully understanding the increasing abstraction of the work, he was diagnosed with a melanoma brain tumor in October 2023. Explaining possibly some of the recent expressive nature and frantic desperation shown in recent paintings. The brush work showing rapid movement of contrasting colors throughout. This possibly reflective of his state of mind at the time.
